1931 Rolls Royce Phantom 2 Continental by H.J. Mulliner

Chassis number: 66GX

Registration Number: GP55

1931 Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental Sports Saloon by Mulliner, originally ordered on the 13th March 1931 by Mr and Mrs Allen, Cadogan Hotel, 75 Sloane St, London, S.W.  In 1939 it was purchased by R.G. Lillywhite owner of the famous Sportswear store of Piccadilly Circus. The Lillywhite family proceeded to own 66GX for 60 years until 1999. Restored by a British engineer, GX66 has been set beautifully and drives exquisitely with the lightest steering we have ever known on a Phantom II.

A quintessential Phantom 2 Continental in fully restored condition.  This car epitomises the continental ideal with close coupled saloon coachwork, twin spares to the rear & a long louvred bonnet that seems to go on for ever.

The car is finished in Prussian blue over black wings with the paint being new.  The bonnet top is left in raw polished aluminium.  The roof is fabric covered.  To the interior is brand new dark blue hide piped in cream.    The windscreen wipers are vacuum operated & move across the screen from side to side whilst remaining in the vertical plane.  Very unusual.

To drive this car is a delight.  The steering is two finger light in its operation & has no play whatsoever.  The engine is robust quiet & hearty pulling well in all gears.  Brakes are pin sharp & the car as whole is a credit to the restorers.  Under the bonnet the car is as correct as can be with emphasis being given to keeping the original feel to the mechanics of the car instead of the more modern fashion of painting eveything in high gloss paint.  Shiny Ace wheel discs are fitted all round adding to the apperance of the car.  A full tool kit is located in a tray in the boot of the car.

I have driven many Phanotm 2's in my life but rarely have I driven one as good as this.  You really have to drive this car to appreciate just how good it is.
