1929 Rolls Royce 20/25 Shooting Brake By Henry Binder

Registration Number: DS7153

Chassis number: GGP17

Ordered new by Andre Lazard of the french Banking family; this car is a very very early 20/25 & was despatched direct Paris to be bodied by Henry Binder as a cabriolet.  The car was relinquished by the Lazard Family in 1959 & the next owner kept the car for an astonishing 51 years prior to the curent third owners acquiring it.

During the war the car was caught up in the turmoil of the German advance towards Paris & suffered badly having been shot up with a machine gun.  History does not relate if it were British French or German gunfire that did the damage.  Immediately after the war the car was disinterred from its slumber & sent back to Binder where the current shooting brake body was fitted.

The body is of beautiful construction with a stunning ribbed wood roof section & is well suited to estate duties.  A useful gun rack is fitted to the rear along with fishing rod holders to the roof.  It currently keeps company in the garage with a 20hp cabriolet.  The woody is most often seen on its weekly trip to the refuse dump whereas the 20 is used for more salubrious events.  The rear door folds down & forms a useful picnic table secured by retaining chains.  It was indeed used as a hunting car by the Lazard family.

An absolute plethora of papers come with the car from assorted french repairers & also from Rolls Royce dating back to the 1950's.  A full engine rebuild was undertaken by Arthur Archer in the 1990's  Tidy under the bonnet the car is in fine running conditon.  A new aluminium head has also been fitted to the engine.  The chassis plate is of the Continental type being square & in French.  The speedometer is also of the continetal type being in both miles to the inside & KM's to the outside.  51573 is current indicated mileage but we assume it to have been around the clock at least once.  The second owner was also a Rolls Royce shareholder owning one £20 share of the company the certificate for which comes with the car.

The wood bodywork is in superb condition having ben caringly re-varnished recently.  It is utterly charming & simply reeks of understated old money style.  Capacious & practical it would do well on a scottish estate or indeed at any shoot.  French made & supplied Marechal headlamps are fitted to the front in a nod to its Gallic origins.

Residing in far southwest Wales the car may be viewed there by prior appointment.  For international viewers we can collect the car & bring it to London for ease of viewing.  The current owners are quite attached to it & plan to go on using it right up to the point of its sale.
